At Butler, we pride ourselves on maintaining high professional standards and delivering transparent, trustworthy service to all our clients. From 1 July 2025, new professional standards under the Tax Agent Services Act (TASA) will come into effect, introduced by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) to ensure greater clarity, consistency, and client protection across the tax profession.
These changes formalise many practices Butler has already embedded in our client relationships, but there are a few important updates you should be aware of as we continue to work together.
What You Can Expect from Butler
Individual Engagement Letters:
Previously, one engagement letter may have covered multiple members of a family or business group. Going forward, each individual taxpayer we act for will receive their own engagement letter or service proposal to sign. This ensures clarity about the services we provide, your responsibilities, and your formal consent for us to act on your behalf.
Clearer Communication:
If any changes arise that affect the scope of our services, we will notify you promptly and clearly. This helps keep you informed every step of the way.
Stronger Documentation Requirements:
To meet compliance standards, you may be asked to provide supporting documents for certain claims or deductions. We’ll guide you through this process, making it straightforward and secure.
Your Rights and Feedback:
You have the right to raise concerns or complaints about our services. We encourage open dialogue and are committed to resolving any issues transparently.
Client Conduct Expectations:
As part of the updated professional code, Butler must disengage from clients who knowingly provide false information or refuse to comply with tax laws—reflecting our commitment to integrity.
Behind the Scenes
Butler has updated internal systems, policies, and training to comply with these new requirements. We’ll manage all the necessary steps, and you only need to act when we ask—such as signing engagement letters.
We’re here to support you through these changes, ensuring your experience remains clear, compliant, and confidence-inspiring. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our office.
